The house-meeting slot of Wednesday, 21st May 2014, was utilized by the Dance department to show-case the creativity and talent of our students as they performed a series of dances that displayed rhythm and dexterity through some incredible foot and hand work. It was plain for all to see that our students are not just bundles of energy, but that when this energy is harnessed through dance, they are an absolute delight to watch.
The programme commenced with an invocation to Lord Ganesh, or what is technically termed as a ‘Ganesh Paran’- an instrumental ode the Lord- played on the ‘Pakhawaj’-the oldest percussion instrument that dates back to the mythological ages of Lord Ram and Ravan and is also believed to have been played by the latter and Lord Ganesh.
The invocation was followed by a series of dances by the students that primarily displayed the technical aspects of ‘Kathak’, to name a few- ‘namaskar’, ‘tathkar’, ‘hasthak’, ‘tukra’ and ‘aamad’. While the first set of performances was in ‘Vilambith Lay’ or ‘constant speed’, the latter set of performances was in ‘Druth Lay’ –the fastest rhythmic speed.
The enthralled audience was also treated to a contemporary dance and a Fusion dance that incorporated modern dance in ‘Kathak’.The programme, was deeply appreciated by the students, teachers and Principal, Dr Neeta Bali
