The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems and spoils;
The motions of his spirit are dull as night
And his affections dark as Erebus:
Let no such man be trusted. Mark the music.
(Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice, 5.1.91-7)

ACTIVITIES

Equipping children to thrive as global citizens in the 21st century, we offer opportunities of growth and development through an integrated activities programme for each age group. We re-enforce positive attitudes by providing a platform for them to discover their abilities in areas of special interest, while they develop their skills and knowledge.

Education at GDGWS goes far beyond the classroom. All students, resident and day-boarding, without exception, participate in co-curricular activities. There is also a full-fledged programme of activities for resident students on weekends that includes in-house and off-campus activities.

The very experience of school becomes more meaningful for children when they immerse themselves in activities they enjoy. With superior infrastructure, strong human resources and world-class facilities that bring the activities curriculum to life, children are encouraged to develop emotionally and physically in a safe and nurturing environment that channelises their skills and, in many ways, contributes to improved academic development and performance.

ACTIVITIES INFRASTRUCTURE:

MULTIPURPOSE HALL & OPEN-AIR AMPHITHEATRE:

Performances take place in a variety of places, including the Multi-purpose Hall and the Open-air Amphitheatre.

STUDIOS:

There are 4 Specialist Studios dedicated to the performing arts: Western Music, Indian Music and Dance; each with CADCAM equipment.

With 3 Art Studios for the visual arts (primary, middle and senior), the students are offered a variety of artistic activities, including drawing & painting, pottery & sculpture, mural art, clay modelling, print-making, tie-and-dye, doll-making and paper-cutting & pasting.

The activities programme is an integral part of a child’s education at GDGWS, serving in many ways as an extension of the guiding philosophy of the academic programme that encourages experimental and project-based learning. Students have a wide array of activities to choose from, with the option of participating in the same activities or experimenting with new ones. Most activities require little more than curiosity, some have try-outs and others require special skills, but there is always something for everyone!
