To promote international mindedness, the PYP students and teachers of GD Goenka World School organized a Jamboree on Friday, August 31, 2012.
As part of the Jamboree, each grade from Nursery to Grade 5 portrayed one country. The students, with the support of their teachers, did extensive research on different aspects of their chosen country, including the geographical features, languages, traditional costumes and dances and cuisine. Countries represented, spanned 3 continents – India (Nursery), China (KG), Egypt (Grade 1), Japan (Grade 2), Korea (Grade 3), Spain (Grade 4) and France (Grade 5).
Every grade had a stall at the event showcasing all that they learnt. They enthusiastically told parents and visitors about their country through flyers, display boards, video presentations, songs and dances. The visitors were enthralled by the performances, which included Bhangra, a Dragon Dance, an Umbrella Dance and the Waltz. Everyone enjoyed sampling a range of cuisines, including Croissants, Gazpacho soup and Chern. The parents learnt how to write the Korean alphabets and some Spanish and French vocabulary. All the guests commented on how wonderful it was to learn so much from the children.
Overall, it was a fantastic opportunity for all the children of PYP to learn to value and respect other countries and their cultures. A wonderful afternoon, enjoyed by all!
