The PYP event was very exciting, after all watching the Phelps’ of the future always is. Aryavrat (Grade 3) was the best swimmer amongst the boys, winning both of his events convincingly while Arnica Sharma shone in the girls events. Due to the large number of participants, the 3rd grade participants had their own event while the 4th and 5th graders swam separately, amongst them, Aryan and Mina were the best swimmers and are bound to break some records as they grow up. Sorbus (76 points) emerged the winners with Cycas (60) in second, Nyssa (47) in third and Cedrus (37) finishing last.
The MSP event was eagerly anticipated primarily because everyone was waiting to see how the stars of last year’s PYP event would stack up against the older children. But, perhaps predictably, the much touted participants lived up to their expectations and Aman Jangira emerged as the best swimmer for the boys and Niharika was the best female swimmer. Cedrus (68 points) finished first, Nyssa (51) finished second and Sorbus (51) and Cycas (29) followed suit. But as is often said, the experience and preparation for next year’s IGCSE and IB event was the children’s primary reward.
The IB event was exactly what everyone thought it would be, the school had a new fastest swimmer (Namit Jain, after winning the 25m freestyle event), a new contender made his mark (Aditya Rao and Amrita Sethi winning most of their events) and the established swimmers re asserted their credentials (Namit, Rajit, Saumya, Jing Yi, Sangeeta dominating their events). To many people’s surprise, Saumya Chadha emerged as the best swimmer, brushing off competition from the others while Amrita Sethi, a recent admission to the school the best amongst the girls. In all, the adrenaline and excitement provided the perfect atmosphere for one of the schools most celebrated events. Nyssa won with 119 points, while Cedrus (115), Cycas (96) and Sorbus (19) came second, third and fourth respectively.
The final, tabulated results of the competition are below:
- First – Cedrus (220 Points)
- Second – Nyssa (217 Points)
- Third – Cycas (185 Points)
- Fourth – Sorbus (146 Points)
This year’s event showed that despite some of the finest swimmers graduating, GD Goenka has an amazing event to look forward to next year.
