GDGWS at International Youth Day

admin News & Events

Students of G.D Goenka World School celebrated INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY in a different manner, not by going for a carnival or fiesta rather celebrating it by embarking on an altruistic journey of a sustainable and clean India. Students were invited to an inspiring SPEAK UP organized by a philanthropic environmental association DEVELOPMENT ALTERNATIVES.

The speak up involved many munificent speakers from many NGOs, websites and programs which insinuated and encouraged Youth to participate in programs like the 5th space and un-manifesto, which gives the students autonomy to speak for themselves and a better sustainable environment.

Amongst many speakers there was DR.KHOSLA, an environmentalist and the founder of DEVELOPMENT ALTERNATIVES. He briefed us with an eye opening presentation, discussing various crises we will face if we continue to ignore environmental problems. His erudition and eloquence captured everyone’s attention, moreover the content that was discussed left our students astounded and inundated with loads of shocking facts about the disappearing nature and other social crises.

After an eye opener session by DR.KHOSLA we had a small yet impacting session with the founder of PRAVAH, a NGO with a motive to inspire youth to fight for a cause. We had an interactive session with her and other participant sharing many ideas and examples for creating a better future.

Following her guidance was a young college student from Delhi University who also gave his introspection upon taking action and responsibility. However the next speaker left the students impacted and inspired the most.  Anshul Tewari, a journalist, entrepreneur and an epitome of today’s youth. He is recognized as the founder of YOUTH KE AWAAZ a blog that gives youngsters their own space to discuss, share and write. He expressed his struggles and the loss of autonomy he faced as a youth in India, which led him to blog and share his perspective with the world. He was given UN awards for his benevolent movements and campaigns. His influential words left the students speechless.“What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal.” ― Albert Pike

This quote truly reflects what the students learnt and are willing to adapt. Over all today was a step further for many students, leading them on a journey for a better tomorrow! We thank the development association for inviting us and leaving us enriched with a lot of rousing information.
