ManavRachna International School hosted the 4th India Calling, an inter school event on 22nd and 23rd August, 2014. Six students of G.D.G.W.S participated in the conference.
At the opening ceremony the students had the privilege of listening to the inspiring speech of how India has made a difference in the past and it is for the youngsters to take it forward with the right spirit. Infused with fresh ideas from the students of different schools, India Calling this year looked at the past, present and future through 3 unique simulations and aimed to put forth youth ideas on the same.
After the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a short cultural programme, outline of the day was shared with the 9 participating schools. The event was an amazing amalgamation of unique simulations conceptualized by school students.
Simulation 1 was based on OPERATION BLUE STAR, 1984, where the idea of heightened national security and its stance against the Sikh militants was debated on. Students were dressed as delegates with different opinions. Heated exchange of ideas between students was an eye opener.
Simulation II was a group discussion on NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL. Students debated on thesecurity lapses and lack of co-ordination in India’s military forces ,strategic failures that had led to the loss of lives of thousands of Indians. They discussed on what could have been done to change the outcome of the wars fought and adopt new techniques to safeguard the nation from any internal or external threat that puts the lives of soldiers and civilians at risk.
SIMULATION IIIwas a discussion on the ARTICLE 370. This gave the students a platform to voice their opinion as the stakeholders (Government of India and Government of Jammu and Kashmir) and be a part of the committee that was at loggerheads over the article.
Apart from two days of intense deliberations, there was also a fun-filled get together for the delegates. The two days of rich experience culminated with the closing ceremony on the 23rd of August. It was an educating, stimulating and enriching experience for the students. This conference was a platform to learn and will help the students to prepare for more conferences in the future.
