Anger management for children usually begins with basic psycho education. Children who haven’t had a lot of experience talking about emotions can have a hard time labeling their feelings, recognizing triggers, and connecting the consequences they’ve experienced back to their anger.
Recently, we, at GD Goenka World school, invited a life skill trainer, who conducted an activity based workshop on “anger-management”. Students from grade VIII, IX and X were asked to enact a play on any of their chosen script. They picked up interesting scripts from real life situations and learnt to process various emotions through the role play. They realized that how various feelings like frustration, disappointment, hurt, irritation leads to anger and violence.
Learning to control your anger is about learning new ways to act when you’re upset. Do not mix your angry mood with bad words and actions because mood will change soon.
They were advised to use “stop and think “technique to take a pause and calm oneself down and find alternative ways to resolve the conflict.
