Grade 12 pupils attending a certified training programme at the CERN, Geneva.
CERN is the home to the World Wide Web, the Big Bang Experiment, the Higgs Boson and the largest particle accelerator in the world, it is the epicenter of cutting-edge research in the field of Particle Physics. This week-long programme is the only programme of its kind for high-school students and teachers in India where they can advance their knowledge about Fundamental Physics, Computer Science, and Engineering and learn from the intellectual force behind the world’s greatest inventions. This is an exclusive certified programme where students have the opportunity to attend lectures and demonstrations by experts, visit special CERN facilities as well as participate in workshops with eminent scientists and engineers.
Day 3
Day 3-CERN Visit: Pupils started the day with the visit to AMS( Alpha magnetic spectrometer)- a space shuttle send from NASA and POCC (CERN’s control centre) followed by two exhibitions at CERN campus. They also interacted with two Indian students, doing their internships from there. The ways of doing internship were discussed among peers. Following this, pupils had two hours session with Dr. Albert De Rock. Dr Rock explained the students about LHC,ATLAS ,the experimental techniques and Physics searches from CERN. Pupils visited University of Geneva and the old town in the evening.
Day 4
Day 4 @ CERN : Grade 12 pupils went to see SM, supermagnet cryogenic test facility. Attended the lecture with particle physicist -B Goddart. Went to see the ATLAS site, exactly 98 m above to where Hugg ‘s Boson was discovered.
Day 5
Day 5 @ CERN: It was the day to say good bye to CERN. Pupils enjoyed treasure hunt. In the afternoon, they all went to UN as a guided tour.
