The energy in the room was palpable. The closing ceremony of GWMUN’19 was bittersweet to say the least. While all the delegates cherished the memories made over the last three days, they were sad too, to be leaving each other after three days of fruitful debate.
The ceremony was graced by the honorable presence of Dr Jayasankar Variyar. He is an alumnus of IIT Madras with over 30 years of experience in the field of education. He is also the Pro-Vice Chancellor of GD Goenka University. He congratulated the school for this stupendous feat of having over 270 delegates and participants in the conference. He further emphasized upon how useful the skills of communication and deliberation are for
work and right through the life. The ceremony also featured an offbeat and in a way bizarre musical performance called JUNK YARD by GD Goenka World School band which included making music with everyday objects such as bottles and cans reminding us of Rock Garden in Chandigarh created by Late Sh Nekchand. The Director Principal Dr Neeta Bali congratulated all the delegates, and the entire organizing team for such an effective, successful and productive conference. She complimented the team for having an inclusive MUN with students of SOCH foundation –an NGO joining us and reflecting on the education system. She also mentioned some of the key points that were discussed during the different committee meetings like abrogation of article 370, human rights etc. She summed up by saying that MUN impact is about believing that students have the power to
bring small but significant change to their community.
The conference concluded with an award ceremony wheredelegates of each committee were awarded for their exemplary speeches, the secretariat members were also awarded for their six month long efforts. The best delegation trophy was awarded to GD Goenka Public School, Sector 48 Gurgaon. A vote of thanks was proposed by the Secretary General, Ms Priyam Sharma.
