Earth Day and World Book and copyright Day 2014 At GDGWS

UNESCO proclaimed ‘World book and Copyright Day’ is celebrated all over the world providing opportunities to reflect on ways to better disseminate the culture of the written words.

In many countries, books, comics, magazines, newspapers and even posters are rare commodities and the classroom environment is the only place where children come into contact with words in the written form.

This year UNESCO has launched ‘ Kids Book Cover Competition 2014’ for students to participate from all over the world. Young Goenkans ages 6-13, have also participated in this competition and have send thirty one entries to UNESCO.

Mr. Gaurav Waraj, a professor of School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi (also connected to TERI) conducted an interactive session with MSP students on ‘school buildings and environment’ and ‘How environment plays a vital role in our lives’ which was not only a very effective delivery of ideas to students but also a new learning to all present including teachers. A session echoed with enthusiasm sometimes and left students spellbound another time was much appreciated by students and teachers both

Our students and teacher communities marked this day with enthusiasm and with new ideas. Since this day is back to back with Earth Day on the 22nd April, we at G.D.Goenka world school clubbed the activities. Tata Energy Research Institute was invited to display their publications particulrly meant for school segment. Students browsed through these books and looked at the solar lanterns.
