Report of participation in Model United Nations

Participation at ‘SMUN 2014’ organized by the Sanskriti School, April 2014.

‘SMUN’ had organized  ‘MUN’-‘Mock UN Conference’, at the Sanskriti School, Chanakyapuri on the 24th,25th and 26th of April, 2014. Eight students of G.D.G.W.S  participated in the conference.

At the Sanskriti inter-SMUN conference there were many delegates from different schools, including delegates from neighbouring countries, Pakistan and Nepal.

At the opening ceremony the students had the privilege of listening to the inspiring speech of  the esteemed dignitary , Dr Syeda Hameed, member of Planning Commission who was the key note speaker. She quoted examples of India, how India has developed and  has made a difference in other countries and it is now for the youngsters to take its achievements forward with the right spirit.

The three days of MUN gave our students an overview of the advantages of being an MUNite. The skills included leadership qualities, participatory skills, global perspectives, high level of negotiating skills, problem solving approach, debating skills, presentation skills, knowledge and understanding of current affairs, etc. Delegates learnt how to  make resolutions and amendments to articles that were of advantage to their country, and  at the same time for the welfare of the nation as a whole.

Apart from serious moments, there were a lot of fun-filled moments too. Besides the two days of intense deliberations, there was also a fun-filled  dance party.

The three days of rich experience culminated with the closing ceremony on the 26th of April.

It was an educating, stimulating and enriching experience for the students. This MUN was a platform to learn and will help the students to prepare for more MUNs in the future. It made them aware of Global Issues . It helped the students to give a serious thought on bringing about global peace and unity.
