Students under the guidance of their mentor undertook the study ‘The truth about nutritional deficiencies’ under the eight PYP concepts. They researched about the need for healthy diet, the diseases caused by the deficiencies of various nutrients and ways in which they can make people reflect on the present scenario both at local and global level. They worked collaboratively with the responsibility group to spread awareness both in and out the school.
Students also integrated Hindi language and prepared a street play, ‘Jeene Ki Raah’ which they first presented at “Raahgiri Day” and was later aired by All India Radio on 23 February 2014 on FM Rainbow ‘102.6. Students conducted surveys and found out about peoples perspective about myths and facts related to nutrition, the various health foods and practices.
At each step students reflected upon various activities undertaken and things that can be further done- be it walkathon, debate, talk-show or visit by the Doctor.
On the day of the exhibition students performed dances, street play and used various displays to show their understanding and share their research. A doctor’s corner was set up where students checked parents for prominent symptoms of deficiencies and recommended them possible cure for the same. A knick Knack stall was set up where a sumptuous healthy homemade treat was served to the visitors.
Students also prepared games for the parents to help them identify nutritional deficiencies and reflect upon their learning through the exhibition .They distributed pamphlets sharing a set of dos and don’ts related to making a healthy society. The efforts of the students were appreciated by one and all and they were commended for their hard work.
