For the first time ever GD Goenka World School had organized a cricket tournament ”GOENKAN PREMIER LEAGUE” for the PYP (Grades 3-5) from 9th -15th february,2011.
A full range of cricketing ability was on show by the budding cricketers from PYP. The event no doubt, helped them realize their potential. A total of five teams from reputed schools of Sohna participated in the tournament. The format of the game was decided upon to ensure that maximum participation would occur over the five playing days. The points accumulated after the league matches determined the position of the teams.
The tournament had the benefit of having highly experienced and qualified umpires. Amity International school was the winner of the tournament with GD Goenka Public School and GD Goenka World School taking up the 1st and 2nd runner’s up positions respectively.
Man of the Match award was given for all the 10 matches. Gurshind Singh and Aaditya Singh Shekhawat were declared the “Man of the Match” in two of our school’s matches.
Sang Min was declared the “Best Fielder” and Aaditya Shekhawat was declared the Man the series.
Cheerleaders from the PYP made the ambiance cheerful and jolly and filled the event with fervor and passion. They motivated the players to play even better by swirling their pom poms with each achievement for our school. During all the matches, our commentators from grades 9thand 10th provided a lively commentary to the audience. Indeed, it was a successful tournament for GDGWS and entertaining event as well as enriching experience for the participating teams.
