Goenkan Trident- Not Just an Event but a Culture

admin News & Events

The first Goenkan Trident was held in 2014, and within four years, it has created an ambitious and euphoric stage for young athletes from different schools. G.D GOENKA has pioneered the event to set a culture of sportsmanship in the NCR school community. The opening ceremony of this grand event took place on day-one of the three-day program. It began with the lamp lighting ceremony which was followed by the Ganesh Vandana, a classical dance where the graceful movements of dancers took the audience to another ecstatic world where one and all drowned in aesthetics. This marvelous journey of encapsulating visuals was succeeded by the melodious school choir singing- ‘Morning has broken’.

The Chief Guest for the occasion, Mr. N.K. Jangira was the Head of the Department of Teacher Education and Special Education at the NCERT and has also been associated with several international agencies namely, UNESCO, UNICEF, WHO, the World Bank, SIDA and ODA. He addressed the gathering and said that Trident provides an incredible platform to identify budding talent and serves as a platform for not only those who are competing but also for those who want to compete. According to him, such events teach you team spirit and build teams with unified targets and thus children learn to work in unison. He claimed that the intensity of competition fuels the success of many players while also mentioning that the spirit of sportsmanship is vital and fills everyone with youthful energy and works to synergize one and all associated with it. The teams were formally welcomed by the Director- Principal, Dr Neeta Bali, who emphasized how Trident 2017 is envisaged as an opportunity to build camaraderie with schools in the neighbourhood and strengthen a culture of Sports

Nine schools participated in the event, namely Kunskapsskolan, Amity International Sec46, Suncity, Lancers Gurgaon, Manav Rachna Sec 46 Gurgaon, DPS International DLF, G.D.Goenka Public School Sector-48 and Dwarka. For the past 4 years, the Goenkan Trident has held an esteemed position for GD Goenka along with the participating teams as it has provided good experiences for the future of young sprouting athletes. Sports is a vital part of one’s development and that giving students a platform to expand their horizons will help them excel in their respective sport, as they will play passionately. Such sport competitions only help the young athletes to grow and evolve as players as well as regular people and to become a better version of themselves at every step of the way.

The action-packed three-day event was filled with screams of joy, laughter and excitement. The cheering audience witnessed sighs and frowns of the players. And towards the end of that journey, all celebrated the success and accomplishments of the victorious teams in unison. The 2017 edition of the renowned Goenkan Trident saw a lot of battles for the participating teams and how some won due to their efforts and hard work while some lost in a good stride putting their best into the games they love to play. Summarizing the three days without missing out on the details would be extremely hard, however, the photography team managed to capture every exhilarating moment portrayed by each team due to the insane amount of pressure the competition put them in along with every smile that shone across their faces after another basket, or goal, or point for their respective schools.

There is need to acknowledge each and every effort of the participating teams, faculty, as well as student fraternity for their commitment in making this event a huge success. The event came to a closing with valedictory ceremony and Mr.Rabiu Afaolabi, a retired Nigerian footballer, as the chief guest.

Sports competitions fuel success for our future and we hope everyone enjoyed being a part of it as much as we enjoyed organizing and putting it together.
