Festivals are mostly celebrated to propagate the cultural heritage of
nations & to highlight various aspects of a society. Young
Goenkans too celebrated two such important festivals Gurupurb &
Muharram. Gurupurb in Sikh tradition is a celebration of an
anniversary related to the lives of the Sikhgurus. Observance of these
anniversaries is an important feature of the Sikh way of life.
Muharram is the first month of the Islamic
calendar. It is one of the four sacred months of the year.[1] Since the
Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar, Muharram moves from year to year
when compared with the Gregorian calendar.
The young children of PYP, celebrated the mark of these festivals with
great zeal & fervor. They began their celebration by the famous
spiritual song ‘Ek Onkar’ followed by showcasing the various
learner profiles displayed by Guru Nank Ji through their role plays
& videos. The dancers further added enigmatic energy on the
stage by dancing on a Punjabi song .
The assembly became even more special as the children were given a
sweet surprise “Kadhan Parshaad” specially prepared at school.
