On the 9th of December, 2017 some of the IBDP Visual Arts students opted to visit the National Gallery of Modern Art New Delhi. This visit was an eye-opener for all due to the sheer mind-boggling variety of art work on view.
The students went on a guided tour of all the five levels of the gallery which comprised of miniature paintings as early as the 11th Century to contemporary art work of Indian artists of the present. There were some Company paintings/prints by British artists during the British Raj in the chronologically planned exhibit spanning many generations of art practice.
The students were in for a visual treat when they saw facsimiles of pages of the Constitution of India with ornate hand painted borders and illustrations done by Acharya Nandalal Bose,Beohar Rammanohar Sinha and their team of Kala Bhavan , Shantiniketan. Prem Behari Narain Raizada was the calligrapher of these beautiful pages.
It was an enriching experience and we are grateful to the Gallery staff who graciously allowed our students to view the exhibition on a holiday, it being the second Saturday of the month
