As we are all aware, on the 31st of October, we celebrated the National Unity Day also known as “National Ekta Divas”. In our second block we were, briefed by Shahnaz Ma’am (IGCSE PROGRAM HEAD), about the reason for celebration. National Ekta divas, is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of “Sardar Vallabhai Patel”. He was our first President, who came from the humble origins of a poor farmer, and staved to get his degree from England, before returning to India, and devoting this life to his own country. He was entrusted with the duty of overviewing the partition of India.
In G.D. Goenka Education City, we celebrated this day by running side by side in a marathon. The students of IGCSE, were taken to the amphitheater of G.D. Goenka University. where, we were told about Sardar Vallabhai’s leading role in the country’s struggle for independence. Next we proceeded to take a round of the whole university to commemorate this prestigious event. Overall it was a enlightening and enriching experience. The aim of this event was to pay tribute to the great man, and remember his extraordinary works for keeping India united.
