We had organized an educational visit for Class Xth students to Pepsico Beverage plant located at Nuh, Haryana on 19th Aug 2016. The purpose of this field visit was to show to students how a manufacturing facility looks like and how it conducts its operations. This would enable them to relate the concepts taught in the classroom to practical application.

Varun Beverages Nuh is a Franchise plant owned by RJ Corp, which is the leading Franchise partner for Pepsico. In fact more that 50% of the Indian Business for Pepsico is with RJ Corp, headed by Mr. Ravi Jaipuria who has named all the plants after his son Varun. Apart from having Pepsico Franchise RJ Corp is also into many other businesses viz–Pizza Hut, Yum Foods, Cream Bell , KFC and many others.

Our visit to the plant consisted of a plant round and a presentation on manufacturing operations. The facilitator from Varun Beverages took all the students around the plant and showed the various processes involved in the manufacturing and filling of carbonated beverages. The students got to see the various areas such as syrup room –where beverage is made ready, Filling lines – glass and PET which fill the Beverage into bottles and Warehouse where the final product is stored for distribution.

The presentation covered various aspects such as – the products under the Pepsico portfolio, RJ Corp’s association with Pepsico, its global footprint, awards that bottler has won during the years, certifications acquired, etc. The facilitator also talked about the various functions within the RJ Corp and what the responsibility of each one was. The Beverage making process was also explained during the course of the presentation. Post the presentation was the Q&A round in which many students raised their queries which were well answered by the facilitator.

Overall it was a good learning and enjoyable visit to the plant for the students and should help them in creating interest towards Business Studies.
