The monsoon of 2013 brought Uttarakhand massive loss of lives, property, crops and infrastructure that sets the development clock a decade behind. With many highways damaged, bridges washed away, electricity and phone networks down; several ravaged places continue to be marooned. Expecting the final tally to be horrifying.
Lift Uttarakhand was a mission embarked by us the students of G.D.Goenka world school, with thebenevolent help from Central reserve police force,Sohna. The aim was to collect as many items as possible in order to help the victims.Together, the students visited many societies in Gurgaon. Amongst many were;Carlton estate, Wellington estate, Palm Spring, Suncity, Belmonte, Meditech&Uniwrold.
“We were truly astonished by the response we got. The atmosphere was incredible. Many people contributed to this altruistic mission.
Box by box, as we collected we were completely satiated, however the people didn’t stop donating for this cause, and wanted to help us out even more. This led us to extend our mission’s time by one day.” Remarked Sana Khanijo of grade 12. According to students , they were completely taken aback by the enthusiastic response and leading to a joint philanthropic effort where more than 100 people graciously helped.
