On Saturday 23rd February, parents and teachers were invited to the PYP Exhibition, an event organized by the students of Grade 5 as a culmination of the PYP programme. The Exhibition was based on the unit of inquiry, ‘Breaking Down Barriers’, under the transdisciplinary theme, ‘Sharing the Planet’. Grade 5 students were exhibiting their learning on the various rights available for people with special needs and promoting sensitivity towards them, with an aim to creating an inclusive society.
The students split into 8 groups and each group dealt with one concept: Form, Function, Causation, Change, Connection, Perspective, Responsibility and Reflection. Over the last few months, the students worked with their mentors on activities and research related to their concept. They also went on a field trip to Mother Teresa Missionary of Charity, organized a walkathon for all PYP students to raise awareness and held a talk show where parents, teachers and students shared their views on the issues related to rights for people with special needs.
On the day of the exhibition, the students displayed their learning, using a variety of media, including print, artwork, ICT and interactive games. Some of the students also presented a dance, a play in Hindi and a song. There was also a Knick Knack stall, selling items made by the students. The exhibition was very well attended with the parents of nearly all of the Grade 5 students present. Al l those who attended were very impressed by the work that the students had put in and the way that they presented their learning. One parent said, “A great initiative to improve the understanding of society.”
