GD Goenka World School proudly held online its annual ‘Silver Fiesta- A Movie Critiquing Festival’, on 30th May, 2020. It is an inter-school event conceptualised by Director Principal Dr. Neeta Bali and conducted by the English Department, which this year had participants from nine schools. Silver Fiesta this year was a unique online event that has never been held in any school before. The movie screened was “Aftermath” by director Jessica Ferizo and Trent Gillham. All the teams critiqued the film based on the already shared criteria. The participants shared their own opinions on the movie and the dystopian themes of the movie. Everyone had to critique on different aspects like – Plot, Characterization, Dialogue, Music/Sound, Camera Work, Use of Colors, Symbols, and Analysis.

The school had invited Soul for Screen Ltd. ( a short film production company in London UK and its esteemed film-makers Ana Maria Radulescu and Zaigham Hameed Butt, a GDGWS alumnus, as judges for the competition. In the presence of such imminent judges who explained very clearly the criteria for critiquing the movie, the students were inspired to strive for and perform the best that they can, indeed they exceeded all expectations with their extensive and profound analyses in just 5-7 minutes.

During the opening ceremony, the Director Principal Dr Neeta Bali talked of the importance of cinema as an art form and also in daily life. She also commented that it was a proud moment for the school to have its alumnus Zaigham as one of the judges.

After screening of the movie the teams were given 45 minutes to review and prepare for their oral presentation. One by one, teams presented their critiques for the judges to judge and mark the same based on the set criteria.

We are glad to announce the results shared with us by the judges:
