Teachers’ Day Celebrations in GD Goenka World School

admin News & Events

Teachers’ Day is an event everyone looks forward to. It is full of gorgeous decorations, talented performances and fun times with an excuse to showcase your ‘hidden talents’.

This event is organised by the the 11th grade.

Teacher’s Day is celebrated all across India on 5th September. This joyous day is also the birthday of Dr. Radhakrishnan, the first Vice President of India and the second President. When he was named as the President of India, a group of students wanted his birth date to be named as Radhakrishnan Jayanti. But, he humbly refused and instead wanted to dedicate the day in honour of all teachers across India.

The name of the event held on 5th September for PYP, CS1, IGCSE and IB staff was the Grandeur Ball, with the dress-code and theme “Red and Black”. It was an extensive process to select the performances that would be enjoyable for the teachers (and students) and make their day special and we were very pleased at the outcome.

This Teacher’s Day, we got a chance to enjoy unique performances such as, but not limited to, a popular song, “Despacito”, played by Kushagra Batra, Kushagra Sharma and Shashank Kataria on violin, accompanied by electric guitar and drums. It was a medium that is seldom used for such a song. None of us had seen anything like it before and it was truly wonderful to watch. A drum solo was also featured by Vaibhav Sharma. Drums may look like a simple instrument to play but they certainly are not. The lack of any background music made the pure sound of percussion and show of talent a pleasure to watch. We also Opera by Sanjana, a form of music of music so complex that we had no choice but to clap in admiration. An Afghani dance was also featured by various students, which definitely brought a lot of cultural flair to the event as well as cheers from the audience. A ‘Photo Booth’ was set up with a beautiful theme and different props and everyone enjoyed themselves.

With all the logistic work, decorations, choreography, invitations, and so on, organising such an event was tougher than any of us had thought but, it was made much easier through the help of the teachers who stepped up to handle and guide us through it all – Deepika ma’am and Manmeet Ma’am. We owe a lot of the event’s success to them and thank them for their help and guidance.

In addition, the whole of 11th grade organised a Disney themed Teacher’s Day celebration on the previous day, the 4th of September, for the PYP staff. After organising this event we have the utmost respect for all of the PYP staff for taking care of the angelically notorious children. Finding ways to help them learn and organise a high quality performance were our biggest challenges. We were thoroughly exhausted by the end of it but we would be lying if we said that the enjoyment from teaching the kids and spending time with them didn’t more than make up for it.

We tried our best to make it a memorable day for all our teachers because they truly deserve it for all the blood, sweat and tears they put in every day to help us become better people overall. We also understood how much effort it takes to plan such an event but also understood the feeling of satisfaction when things went according to plan. We thank the teachers for giving us the opportunity to organise this event and hope that they have some memories that they will treasure forever.

So on behalf of the 11th grade, we once again hope all the teachers enjoyed the event and, to our juniors, good luck for organising this!
