G.D Goenka World School : On a pleasant spring morning of 15th February, the PYP Goenkans gathered proudly at DLF galleria as a part of their responsible initiative to save the endangered flora and fauna from extinction. To reach out to the masses and create awareness about the need to protect the plants and animals, grade 5 organised a WALKATHON on RAAHGIRI DAY, a concept conceptualized and implemented by PYP teachers and students as a part of ongoing exhibition unit, ‘Adaptation and Extinction.’
The walk started off with the Goenkans displaying banners and shouting slogans for conserving endangered plants and animals. The energy and enthusiasm in the environment was palpable.
Leading from the front Miss Geetika Sehgal, Miss Seema Swami and PYP coordinator, Mrs Pretty Khosla motivated the future responsible leaders of the planet. Parents too participated in the event with zest and excitement. The voice, tone and mood of the event charged up the passerby’s and garnered their attention.
The walkathon was followed by students putting up a NUKKAD NATAK, ‘Tigers and trees’. They conveyed the message to the Raahgirians, that it is WE who need to take charge as global citizens and be the voice of flora and fauna. To add lightheartedness to the event, the actors turned into impromptu dancers at the behest of presenter on the stage and let loose their spirits.
Success, a sense of accomplishment and smiles marked the faces of everyone present. Hip hip hurray to the Goenkans for effectively working towards a cause, to save the vulnerable and nearly extinct species that are an integral part of our planet.
