We are always exploring ways of enhancing global citizenship at G.D.Goenka World School. April 23rd is celebrated as ‘World Book and Copyright Day’ all over the world and with great enthusiasm and aplomb at our school. This year to mark the day, and empower the students to international exposure, a Book Fair with a theme ‘World Windows’ from April 23rd-25th was organized in the school premises. There was a tremendous turn out of the students and teachers to browse, read and purchase books displayed on various countries and cultures of the world by Scholastic India.
Story telling is an effective tool to pass on the message to younger students. The story telling hour was organized in the junior performing Arts section where PYP students were told Korean Folk Tales in four sessions by a resource person from British Council.
Another gala event ‘World Windows, an International Fashion show’ in the form of an Inter House competition, was organized in the auditorium.
Objective of the Show was to
- Encourage International student participation
- Learning about other cultures
- Create International mindedness and awareness
- Appreciate artistic values in other countries costumes, hairstyles and accessories.
We witnessed 100% international student participation and magnificent dresses in vibrant colours of Korea, china, Tanzania, UAE, Asia, Europe, Russia. The students dressed up in breathtakingly beautiful dresses came over the stage with their traditional mannerism. They also presented invaluable information on the traditional and national costumes by way of power point presentations and verbal descriptions. They won the hearts of the whole school community. The winners were crowned as ‘Ms international Goenkan’ and ‘Mr. International Goenkan’.
April 23rd -25th were truly International days @ G.D.Goenka World School.
